English Professor John E. Alvis, who has taught at the University of Dallas for 50 years, is coeditor with Thomas G. West of Shakespeare as Political Thinker (2000), editor of Areopagitica and Selected Political Writings of John Milton (1999), and the author of Shakespeare’s Understanding of Honor (1990) and a book on Homer and Virgil, Divine Initiative and Heroic Response (1995).
